General Information

　　Geographic Location The City of Jinhua,stretching across latitudes 28°32'-29°41'north and longitudes 119°14'-120°46'east,is situated in central Zhejiang,a coastal province of the people's Republic of China.It faces the three seaports (na-mely,Shanghai,Ningbo and Wenzhou) in the east,and is close to west Zhejjiang and Fujian Jiangxi and Anhui Provinces in the West.It is its favorable location that makes the City one of the hubs of land communica- tions in China,with numerous arteries of traffic connecting Zhejiang Province with its neighbor-ing provinces including Fujian,Anhui and Jiangxi.Jinhua is a central city to the west of Zhejiang.

　　Under the jurisdiction of Jinhua are two urban districts (namely the Wucheng District,where the Municipal Govermment has its office buildings,and the Jindong District),four county-level cities (Yiwu,Do-ngyang,Yongkang,and Lanxi),and t-hree counties(Pujiang,Wuyi,and Pan'an).

Natural Environment

　　The subtropical monsoon climate endows the City with a distinct demarcation of the four seasons, the annual average temperatures ranging from 16? to 18? and the annual precipitation from 1109 to 1305 mm. With basins, hills, valleys and plains distributing and alternating across the area, it teems with red earth and forest resources, enjoying a forest coverage of 61.3%. down the Jinhuajiang River (also known as the Wujiang River), the largest of the district, ships can descend the Lanjiang River, the Fuchunjiang River and the Qiantangjiang River, all the way to the Grand Canal as well as to the seaports along the coast.

Agriculture

　　A land flowing with milk and honey, Jinhua boasts plentiful resources. Abundant in farm produce and local specialties, it gains such names as "Second Largest Grain Depot of Zhejiang," "Home to Fruits," "Home to Camellias," "Home to Xianggu (lentinus edodes)," "Home to Medicinal Materials," and "Milk-Cow Base in South China ." The favorable climate and plentiful natural resources provide advantageous conditions for the development of agriculture here. Among grain crops are over 400 different strains of rice, wheat, legumes, potatoes, grain sorghums, millets, etc. Cash crops include cotton, oil plants, silkworm cocoon, sugarcane, melons, vegetables, edible mushrooms, tea, fruits, mulberry, medicinal materials, flowers, and local specialties such as mat straw, lotus seeds, Chinese chestnuts, Chinese torreya nuts, etc., which belong to the 400-odd strains in over 70 genera. There are numerous distinctive subsidiary products, including hams of Jinhua, pigs, sausage, canned foods, ever-fresh and quick-frozen vegetables, dairy products, bean products, rice wine of Jinhua Prefecture, lotus-root starch, shortbread of Jinhua, candied jujubes, Xianggu (lentinus edodes) of Pan'an, Xuanping lotus seeds of Wuyi, ginger of Yongkang, etc. Fruits of Jinhua include oranges, waxberries, strawberries, watermelons, cucumis melo, muskmelons, candied pears, green dates, cherries, Chinese gooseberries of Wuyi, peach-shaped plums of Pujiang, ping-pong-sized annual grapes, etc., and characteristic flowers include more than 200 strains of camellias, fingered citrons of Jinhua, jasmines, orchids, etc. The animal husbandry of the City, featured by its pigs and milk cows, holds a decisive position in the Province of Zhejiang .

　　Strong industries of agriculture in Jinhua are dairy products, flowers, seedlings, vegetables, fruits, tea, Chinese traditional medicines, and edible fungi.

　　Known as Home to crafts, Jinhua enjoys flourishing private economy, with its industry mainly supported by processing and manufacturing. It is an important manufacturing base on the southern wing of the Shanghai-centered Yangtze Delta Economic Zone.

　　1、Manufacture of Automobiles, Motorcycles and Their Accessories

　　There are over 10 companies in Jinhua producing automobiles and motorcycles, and more than 200 manufacturing car and motorcycle fittings. Main products include luxury buses, miniature saloon cars, farm vehicles, motorcycles, car gears, transmission assemblies, bodywork, motorcycle engines, shock absorbers, etc. The Neoplan Automobile Co., Ltd. of Jinhua, by introducing the advanced technology from Germany, has developed 56 models of luxury buses in 4 categories.

　　2、Hardware Utensil Manufacture and Metalwork Processing

　　Jinhua is the largest manufacturing center of electric instruments in the world, there being more than 1,000 companies manufacturing hardware utensils and metalwork for export at present, over 100 of which are with a production value of above 10 million yuan, and 10 exceed even 100 million. Many products manufactured here enjoy higher market shares than those produced in other cities of China. 　　Complete in its categories, Jinhua’s light industry consists of nearly 10,000 companies, manufacturing daily consumables (including electric bicycles, skateboards, ornaments, security doors, stationery, teaching facilities, zippers and so on), MSG, spices, paper, presswork, soft drinks, leatherwork (cases, bags and other products), craftwork, etc.

　　The textile-and-garment industry is strong in Jinhua, with more than 6,000 companies engaged therein, employing round 200,000 workers. Main products include various garments, socks and stockings, towels, blankets, basted quilts and so forth.

　　4、Pharmacy and Chemical Industry

　　The pharmacy and chemical industry is a pillar industry under special support of the city. Here is where the famous “eight herbal medicines in Zhejiang” are planted, and Home to fluorites in China. The unique advantages in fluorite resources, plus the favorable technology and market, lay the solid foundation for development of the industry. There are 108 pharmaceutical and chemical enterprises of considerable scales in the area, manufacturing Western medicines, Chinese patent medicines, medical intermediates, fluorites and their by-products, fine chemicals, painting, coating materials, activators, etc.

　　5、Industry of Electronic Materials

　　The manufacture of electronic materials and components has begun to take shape in Jinhua. Here are the biggest manufacturing base and enterprises of magnetic materials in the world. The sales volume of magnetic products makes up half of the world’s total, and the output of crystal resonators accounts for 70% of the domestic market share. Main products include magnetic materials, crystal resonators, IC chips, conductive glass, capacitors, diodes, etc.

　　6、Food Processing

　　Food processing is a traditional industry of Jinhua, with more than 5,000 enterprises engaged therein, employing a total staff of over 30,000. Main products include dairy produce, meat and poultry products, canned foods, frozen and fresh-keeping vegetables, edible fungi, organic tea, ham, beer, MSG, aquatic products, etc. The amount of milk cows on hand accounts for 46% of the total number of Zhejiang Province, and the milk output exceeds 60,000 tons. The total planting area of organic tea is over 6,667 hectares, yielding 6,500 tons of tea a year. The output of fresh mushrooms here takes up 20-30% of the total amount of the country, and the exporting of edible fungi makes a profit of 150 million yuan every year.

　　7、Building Materials

　　The building-material industry is another traditional pillar industry of Jinhua. There are 33 companies here producing cement, and 8 manufacturing new concrete-type wall materials. The output of cement ranks the second in the province. Five companies are able to put out more than 1 million tons of cement every year.

　　Jinhua is an important base in China for manufacture and export of electric instruments, garments and textiles, hardware, medicines, magnetic materials, ornaments, fluorite chemicals, educational facilities and so on.

　　Many distinctive products made in Jinhua, including commodities, metal fittings, woodcarvings and crystal craftworks, sell well in both domestic and overseas markets.

City Planning of Jinhua to the Year 2020

　　By the year of 2020, Jinhua is to present itself as a metropolis in Midwest Zhejiang, an important transportation center and information port of the Province, and a city of landscape and ecology. The city proper, the nucleus of the prospective metropolis, will be the transportation and information hub and center of trade and finance, logistics, tourism, education and culture, and modern manufacturing, in Midwestern Zhejiang. The urbanization rate will hit 70%, with the population beyond 1 million and the greenbelt coverage higher than 40% in the urban area. A transportation network will be established, which, with the city proper as its center, is composed of a Midwest-Zhejiang railway hub, 5 expressways, 3 intercity through lanes, 2 circular intercity routes, a ringroad, and a planned 4D-grade civil airport. The framework of the city roads, adopting an integrated circular-and-crisscrossed layout, will consist of 3 vertical roads, 3 horizontal arteries and 3 ringroads. The overall arrangement of the city will then be “a nucleus plus 6 functional zones”, with the center disposed around “a beach and a sandbar”, and a sub-center in each of the four directions.

　　Jinhua enjoys convenient transportation, being the communications center in Southeast China between coastal and inland areas, and one of the major hubs of landway transportation in the country. The Zhejiang-Jiangxi, Jinhua-Wenzhou and Jinhua-Qiandaohu Railways intersect in the City. Investment Environment

　　Transportation

　　Highways

　　There is an interlaced network of highways in Jinhua that extend in all directions, leading to Hangzhou and Shanghai in the north, to Quzhou in the west, to Ningbo and Taizhou Ports in the east, and to Wenzhou Port in the south. The radiating highways, including the Hangzhou-Jinhua-Quzhou and Jinhua-Lishui-Wenzhou Expressways and other national and provincial highroads, all contribute to the transportation network, with the City Proper as its center. The Jinhua-Ningbo and Jinhua-Jiaojiang Expressways are under construction, and the Zhuji-Yongjia Expressway and the City's Loop Road are being planned. Today it is only a one-and-a-half-hour journey driving from Jinhua to Hangzhou , and a three-hour to Shanghai . When the Jinhua-Ningbo Expressway is open to traffic, the distance between the two cities will also be narrowed to a 90-minute ride.

　　Railways

　　Three railroads, namely, the double-tracking Zhejiang-Jiangxi Railway that traverses Jinhua area, the Jinhua-Wenzhou Railway, and the Jinhua-Qiandaohu Railway, are intersected here in Jinhua. Among other railroads, the Jinhua-Ningbo and Jinhua-Jiaojiang Railways, and the extended part of the Jinhua-Qiandaohu (i.e., from Jinhua all the way to Mt. Huang ) Railroad, are all included in the blueprint. Jinhua Railway Station, one that ranks Class 3 in Grade A conferring the state norm, is the biggest marshalling yard in East China, and the City is an important center of railway transportation in the area as well.

　　Airlines

　　There is a 1-to-3-hour journey driving from Jinhua Proper to the surrounding international airports in Hangzhou, Shanghai and Ningbo, and a 20-minute to Yiwu Civil Airport, where over ten air routes are available at present, including those destined for Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Beijing, Xiamen, et alibi.

　　Water Transport

　　In the vicinity of Jinhua are the harbors in Shanghai, Ningbo and Wenzhou, and the Jinhuajiang River (also known as the Wujiang River), the largest of the district, flows down into the Lanjiang River, the Fuchunjiang River and the Qiantangjiang River.

　　On-Carriage Port

　　Today the On-Carriage Port -- an international container freight station -- has been put into operation in the City, where a straight-through CIQ supervision office will be set up.

　　Postal and Telecommunication Services

　　Jinhua is the second largest communications hub in Zhejiang . 4.2 out of ten people in the City have telephones, and altogether there are more than 1.4 million subscribers of hand-free telephones, plus 1.98 million consumers of cell phones and over 300,000 Internet users. Being a pivotal city of optical cables in central Zhejiang , it boasts the SDH digital synchronizing network of optical cables.

　　Water and Power Supplies

　　Jinhua has adequate facilities capable of supplying tap water that measures up Grade A conferring the state norms on drinking water, the amount of supply in the City Proper being 350,000 tons per day.

　　As a component of the East-China Power Grid, the Jinhua Power Grid boasts a power transmission and transformation network that is composed of a primary sub-network covering 500 kv, 220 kv and 110 kv, and a subsidiary covering 35 kv and 10 kv. There are over 100 substations that enjoy a transformer capacity of 35 kv and upwards, capable of supplying sufficient power to the City.
